Employer: Iran Water & Power Resources Development Co.
Hexa’s Responsibilities in Roads and Tunnels: Design and supervision
Hexa’s Responsibilities in Lali Bridge : Design check and construction supervision in cooperation with LAP Co.(Germany)
Structural Type of Lali Bridge: Cable-Stayed bridge with middle span of 256m consisting of double drilled shaft(caisson) foundation system, RC pier & pylons and composite deck with steel plate girder and precast slabs
Span: 2*100+256
Structure Type of Tunnels: NATM-type tunnelling in rock with considerable over burden through inclined strata
Project's Construction Situation: Accomplished in 2011
About Lali Bridge :
The project has been a proper civil engineering work including roads, tunnels, steep cuttings and the longest-span cable stayed bridge in Iran. High above the Zagros Mountains, construction carried out in difficult conditions. Four tunnels were included, two of them adjacent to the bridge shaping an interesting view especially when the dam’s lake rises up. The bridge itself has pylon length of 150m founded on inclined mountain. Dealing with uncertainties involved in foundations - interacting with ground - became even more complicated than the structure itself; the silt-stone mountains with mud-stone inter-layers where foundations and most of the piers were to submerged later on, in a lake shaped by the Upper Gotvand Dam ahead in the valley was quite challenging. Having dealt with such challenge, Hexa came up with a huge double drilled shaft foundation system in order to cope with uncertainties particularly in terms of adjacent geo-material undergoing physical changes when they become saturated.
